EMILY SOFALY

Bio

I am an artist and writer (b. 1993, French/American/British), living and working in London. 

My practice explores mysticism, femininity and otherness through entangled narratives and dreamed worlds. With an interest in personal and collective myth-making, I seek to portray figures that are attuned to the natural and spiritual realms. Invariably interwoven, my paintings and poems both delve into my psyche and express a lifelong yearning for this connection with nature and the unseen. My writings serve as a departure point, as I transcribe the images and sensations they inspire in me onto the pictorial surfaces of my works. Akin to the spine of a book, words and sentences from my poems also adorn the sides of my paintings, offering clues to the feelings their imagery might evoke.

Recent exhibitions include Paintingsince2000 (online, 2025-26); Liminal Arts, London (2025); Yorkton Workshops Gallery, London (2025); The Lido Stores, Margate (2023); RuptureXIBIT, Kingston (2022); The Print House Gallery, London (2023) and New House Art Space, Guildford (2022). My poems and paintings have featured in various publications, including Apparitions by Tent Press (2025); Mates Magazine (2025); Wyrd Magazine (2023) and Ouch Collective (2023).
